Outing to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal – August 2012

For this year’s outing, several members of the Conclave and their guests were present for a pleasant visit and guided tour of Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire.

This is a World Heritage site, set in 800 acres of beautiful countryside, and contains the magnificent 12th century abbey ruins. Also within the gardens are the landscaped water gardens of Studley Royal, with statues, follies and breathtaking views.

A splendid lunch followed at the home of the Grand Treasurer, Major Geoffrey Berry, allowing members to meet in an informal atmosphere. The day was rounded off with a short visit to the Parish Church, which is accessed directly from the garden.

Our thanks to Geoffrey Berry for making the local arrangements.
